Valentina Murabito was born in 1985 in Catania, Italy. She completed her photography studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence and at the Moholy Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest/Hungary. Since then she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and her work has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide.
In her work, Valentina Murabito often deals with the human body and its relationship to space and its surroundings. She often uses unusual perspectives and stages her motifs in a surreal and poetic way. In her work she often combines different media such as photography, video, installation and performance.
She works exclusively with a large format camera that is almost forty years old and wants to use it to go back to the origins of photography. More recently she has been exploring the consequences of urbanization and photographing the dwindling world of Sicilian shepherds.
Her photographic works are a hybrid of different art forms, which come together in experimental analogue photography.
Murabito's works are represented in numerous public and private collections worldwide, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Valentina Murabito lives and works in Berlin
