Patrick Cierpka is a German artist who was born in Giengen in 1967 and currently lives in Berlin. He studied visual communication at Pforzheim University and earned a master's degree in painting with Karl Horst Hödicke at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.
Cierpka's works show colourful scenes with figurative elements depicted in an abstract way. Through the use of colour, he creates dazzling moments that unfold before the viewer's eyes. The artist tries to capture the essence of fleeting moments, such as when you are lying in a meadow with a forest clearing nearby, and you open your eyes just slightly to catch a glimpse of the moment. His works are characterised by a play of sunlight and colours that seem to merge and penetrate through branches and leaves.
Cierpka's works invite the viewer to immerse himself in an experience that is detached from space and time. There is no up or down, and time seems to stand still while space does not exist. Through the use of colour, the artist creates scenes that are unrepeatable in their original form. His work focuses on dazzling moments that unfold before the viewer's eyes.
Cierpka has had several solo exhibitions, including "Neue Sterne Sehen" and "JETZTzeit" at Lachenmann Art in Konstanz, Germany. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including "+1", "Intersection" and "Comfy with Sonic Speed" at Lachenmann Art, as well as "Backstage", "THE WORKS" and "#30".
In 2003, Cierpka was awarded the Hans-Helmut Baur Prize by the Kunstmuseum Heidenheim.
