Jirka Pfahl was born in Wurzen in 1976 and studied media art at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) in Leipzig from 1998-2004. In 2005 and 2006 he was a guest student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Joseph Kosuth. From 2006 to 2010 he was a master student with Helmut Mark at the HGB Leipzig, and in 2010 and 2011 he taught at the Evening Academy of the HGB in Leipzig. Until 2003, his artistic work was almost exclusively concerned with non-material works, until the first printmaking experiments followed. Structure, order, discipline, rigour. At first glance, Jirka Pfahl's works on paper exude a depth imbued with mathematical beauty. The strict form of the precise lines lends each work something pleasantly meaningful. The incidence of light and the angle of view constantly produce new shades, new patterns. Jirka Pfahl's artistic range, his versatility and his gift for captivating and inspiring the viewer regardless of the chosen art form are unique.
